GMAS Changes on International Travel

GMAS changes on international travel when paying International individuals for services outside of Harvard’s Accounts Payable Buy-to-Pay system. There will be a system generated email from financialpolicy@harvard.edu on awards in GMAS that include Internation Collaboration when the following boxes are selected on the ICA approval:

  • International Travel
    • Conduct fieldwork (e.g. data collection, surveying, collecting samples, conducting experiments)
  • International Collaboration (other than Subaward recipients)
    • Fieldwork, including data collection surveying, collecting sample, and/or conducting experiments

Please advise anyone traveling seeking reimbursement outside of Buy-to-Pay to contact financialpolicy@harvard.edu for an initial consultation prior to traveling.

If your project will include paying international individuals for services outside of Harvard’s accounts payable Buy-to-Pay system (i.e., if you will pay individuals using cash, University-issued or personal credit card in predominately cash-based economies), there is a University process in place to enable your research by proactively mitigating potential tax and legal risks. Please contact financialpolicy@harvard.edu for an initial consultation.
