SRAI Live Webinar - New International Privacy Regulations and Their Impact on Research

Description: The European Union has grabbed headlines and attention with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), however, around the globe numerous countries from China to Thailand to Nepal have quietly been updating their privacy laws with huge implications for multi-national research. In this webinar we will take a global tour of new regulations and their impact on research. Many are similar to GDPR but some go much further with in country registration requirements. Research administrators overseeing international research need to be prepared.

Overview of Sponsored Programs Administration Training

Date/Time/Location: March 18th, 2021 / 10:00am-3:00pm / Live Virtual Training

Description: The Sponsored Projects Overview is the foundation of the University Research Administration Training Team’s (URATT) course offerings. This full day session, offered quarterly, involves facilitation and participants from across the University, covers basic information on Harvard research administration policies, procedures, the award lifecycle, regulatory compliance, and also provides resources and contacts for future use. Workshop attendance is limited to 40.

Intended audience: Staff members with less than one year of experience in research administration at Harvard or anyone who would like a review of or a University-wide perspective on sponsored projects.

Cost Transfer Level II Training

Date/Time/Location: March 24th, 2021 / 10:00am - 11:30am / Live Virtual Training

Description: This Cost Transfer session will focus on the role of the Cost Transfer Authorized Approver. The class will include a review of Harvard's Cost Transfer Policies and Procedures, the responsibilities of approvers, identifying requirements and best practices for approval, and cost transfer resources. Attendees will participate in group discussions and work through examples and case studies.
Audience: Anyone Responsible for review and approval of cost transfers.
Pre-Requisites: Review the Cost Transfer Policy, Complete the Intro to Cost Transfer online course (Required).

Subrecipient Monitoring: Informational Session and a Review of Available Resources

Description: In this session we will provide an overview of subrecipient monitoring at Harvard. Topics to be included are:
University Subrecipient Monitoring Policy
GMAS navigation for organization assessments
Resources in the Toolkit
Quarterly Review Process

Intended Audience: This session is strongly recommended for all grants management staff responsible for reviewing subaward invoices/financial reports, processing subaward payments and reporting on subawards. The session will focus on the administrative aspects of subrecipient monitoring. This session is meant to be highly interactive, please bring any unique scenarios and questions to the session.
Pre-work: Please complete the online module Subrecipient Monitoring: An Overview prior to attending class.

ECRT Basics Training

Date/Time/Location: April 22nd, 2021 / 1:30pm-3:00pm / Live Virtual Training

Description: This course will introduce department administrators to effort reporting and the electronic effort reporting and certification system (ecrt), which allows Principal Investigators and Faculty to certify their effort on federally-sponsored projects. This course will cover the following: 

  • Introduction to effort and effort reporting
  • ecrt roles and responsibilities 
  • Workflow for certification by Principal Investigators and/or Faculty 
  • Workflow for Grants Managers to review and monitor and overall management of certifications during certification periods 
  • Best practices during the pre-certification review period
  • Workflow for Primary Effort Coordinators to monitor the process of certifications in their departments and assign roles and overrides as needed

*Please note that this session will include system demos that will first cover Grant Manger responsibilities. The last 30 mins of the session will be devoted to Primary Effort Coordinators and will cover the additional aspects of the systems their role needs to utilize.

Intended Audience: ecrt Basics training is intended for Grant Managers with responsibility for assisting their faculty during the effort reporting process as well as anyone in the Primary Effort Coordinator role. This is a great opportunity for new ecrt users as well as for existing users who want a refresher.
