This is a friendly reminder about two live training sessions happening this week with instructors on Zoom. These interactive courses are excellent opportunities to expand your knowledge and skills in key areas of research administration. Don’t miss out—there’s still time to register!

ECRT Basics (University-wide)

Date/Time/Format: Wednesday, December 4th, 2024 /2:00pm- 3:30pm / Live Virtual Training on Zoom

Description: This course introduces department administrators to effort reporting and the electronic effort reporting and certification system (ecrt), which allows Principal Investigators and Faculty to certify their effort on federally-sponsored projects.

Course Topics:

  • Introduction to effort and effort reporting
  • Ecrt roles and responsibilities
  • Workflow for certification by Principal Investigators and/or Faculty
  • Workflow for Grant Managers to review and monitor certifications
  • Workflow for Primary Effort Coordinators to oversee certifications and assign roles or overrides

The first hour of this session will focus on policies and procedures, while the last 30 minutes will include a demonstration of the ecrt system.

Audience:
Grant Managers assisting faculty during the effort reporting process and Primary Effort Coordinators. This is ideal for both new and returning ecrt users seeking a refresher.

Analyzing Cost Principles (University-wide)

Date/Time/Format: Friday, December 6th, 2024 /2:00pm- 4:00pm / Live Virtual Training on Zoom

Description: This course incorporates activities and case studies to help participants think through complex questions regarding allowability of costs on federal awards and how non-compliance with cost principles can lead to audit findings. We will also consider how internal controls plays a role in ensuring cost principles are applied when charging federal awards. Activities include budget analysis, allowability Q&A, and an audit case study.

Learning Objectives:

  • Apply cost principles and knowledge of the regulatory framework and internal controls to ensure responsible spending
  • Identify and interpret appropriate policies and guidelines to ensure expenditure compliance
  • Anticipate problematic costs to avoid audit findings

Audience: Research Administrators

Pre-Requisites:
Completion of Cost Principles and Direct Costs on Sponsored Awards (University-wide) is strongly recommended. Please note, this course is not foundational and achieving objectives is based on participation.
