## Overview

In the context of sponsored research grants, a **subaward** is a formal agreement issued by the primary recipient (prime awardee) to another institution or entity (subrecipient) to conduct a portion of the funded research project. Subawards allow for collaboration between institutions, leveraging specialized expertise, resources, and capabilities to advance the research objectives.

A **subrecipient** is responsible for carrying out specific project tasks in accordance with the sponsor's requirements while adhering to applicable regulations, reporting obligations, and financial oversight. The prime awardee remains accountable to the funding agency for the overall grant, ensuring that all subaward activities comply with the terms of the original award.
